Diagnosed when she was 4 with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), a cancer of the white blood cells, Natalie underwent nearly three years of chemotherapy. Eliza LeRaybaud 4 “left”, with his sister Natalie LeRaybaud who is eight-years old was diagnosed with Acute Lymphacytic Leukemia at the age of four. In the four years since Natalie was diagnosed, she has been home-schooled and has endured several extended stays at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, most recently in April after she suffered a relapse. Natalie, who will be a fourth-grader at San Gabriel Christian Academy this fall, said she is not scared about the transplant, but fe’ars how her body will react after and the two months post-surgery she will spend in isolation at the hospital. read more

Controversial Australian umpire Darrell Hair has resigned from the International Cricket Council (ICC) elite umpires panel, an ICC spokesman said on Friday. Hair, 55, hit the headlines when he was removed from the umpires panel for matches involving full member nations after Pakistan forfeited the fourth test against England at The Oval in 2006 when they were penalised for ball tampering. Hair and his West Indies’ colleague Billy Doctrove had enraged the Pakistan team when they penalised them five runs for ball tampering on the fourth day of The Oval test. Hair underwent a six-month rehabilitation programme after dropping a racial discrimination claim against the ICC at a London employment tribunal and was reinstated to the elite panel. read more

Hair is made up of a protein called “keratin” produced in hair follicles in the outer layer of skin. The symptoms to look for in men are thinning hair on the scalp, a receding hairline, or a horseshoe shaped pattern that leaves the crown of the head exposed. Changes in hormone levels can also trigger loss of hair, as can the use of certain medications like antidepressants, too much vitamin A, medicines used in the treatment of gout (an intense pain in a joint, most often the big toe, but sometimes other joints, including knees, ankles, elbows, thumbs or fingers), and chemotherapy.
